Darcy Bonner

Darcy Bonner is a Chicago architect and designer whose work spans private residences, landmark towers, and celebrated commercial interiors across the United States and abroad. Born in Dallas, Texas, he trained as an architect at Tulane University, earning both a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master's degree in 1976, and completed a second Master of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1980.
He opened his architecture and interior design office in Chicago in 1980, building a practice defined by a single conviction: that architecture and interiors are one discipline, best conceived together. In 1985 he founded the furniture line Mattaliano, with showrooms in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, Miami, and San Francisco.
A recipient of the Young Architect Award from The American Institute of Architects, Bonner also won the International Chair Competition with his design for a Wearable Chair. His work has been exhibited in museums across the United States — among them the Art Institute of Chicago, the Smithsonian, and the Walker Art Center.
Every project begins with the architecture — proportion, light, and the way a person actually moves through a space — and the interiors follow as a natural continuation of that idea rather than a layer applied on top.
The result is a body of work that reads as calm and inevitable: rooms built from honest materials, tailored to their owners, and made to last well beyond the moment they were designed.

The Furniture
Mattaliano
Founded by Darcy Bonner in 1985, the Mattaliano furniture line carried the studio’s design language into showrooms in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, Miami, and San Francisco. Its pieces have been installed in some of the most prestigious interiors in the country, among them:
